Be prepared for natural emergencies before they strike.
A good home-preparedness kit should contain a wide variety of supplies and be refreshed periodically and
supplemented with items particular to the impending emergency:
- A supply of potable water - at least 3 gallons per person
(don't forget pets, too)
- Non-perishable food and a can opener (non-electric!)
- A first aid kit and manual
- A supply of prescription medications you may need during the emergency
- Portable radio and/or television and extra batteries
- Blankets or sleeping bags
- Protective clothing and shoes
- A spare set of car keys, cash, cell-phone
- Pet food and supplies (leash, muzzle in case of pet injury)
- Playing cards or other entertainment items for a long duration emergency
